Introduction
Welcome to the Bangladesh Open University Library. It is an integral part of the Bangladesh Open University. The Central Library began its operation on September 14, 1994, in a separate three-storied building with a total of approximately 1568 square feet in the main campus. The library has already passed a glorious 22 years service benefiting a large number of distance learners across the country.
Mission
The mission of the BOU library is to provide access to the latest reading materials to its users at the right time. As a social organism, BOU library endeavors to introduce better services to the readers.
General Rules for Library Users
• Faculty/Officer/Staff who have membership are eligible to use the library facilities.
• BOU personnel who are serving outside the main campus are eligible for membership.
• Membership card is not transferable. Anyone losing or damaging his/her membership card can get a new one by applying to the librarian.
• Faculty/Officer can borrow 10 books and staff can borrow 4 books at a time. Books are issued for one month with provision for renewal.
• Rare/Reference books/journal/dailies are not issued.
• Silence is required in the library.
Writing /marking in books is forbidden. Any sort of mutilation will cause replacement.
Collections
The collections of the BOU Library are closely related to the University’s Curriculum and are classified, cataloged and displayed for its users. The Library resources include books, periodicals, newspapers, Journals etc. At present, the users of BOU Central Library have access to around 34,000 books, 392 titles of Journals and 15 national daily newspapers in both Bangla and English.
Activities
Reading room: Library has reading rooms on the ground floor and the 1st floor. About fifty users can sit at a time in the reading rooms of the BOU Central Library. Faculty members can study in separate rooms named Carrel, located on the 1st floor. Newspaper, BOU textbooks are available at the ground floor. Muktijudho corner is located on the ground floor. There is a separate unit for administrative purposes.
Lending: The lending procedure of the library is done manually at the ground floor. Only an authorized member can get lending service.

Library Hour
The library remains open from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm during the working days
Muktijudho Corner
Muktijudho Corner was opened on 12 December 1999 at the BOU library. The Corner carries historical documents, liberation war based books, Bangabandhu’s photographs, portraits and maps etc.
UDL (University Grants Commission of Bangladesh-Digital Library) Member :
As a member of UDL, Bangladesh Open University library is able to access more than eighteen thousand e-books of the renowned eight publishers. These include:
Cambridge University Press, Oxford Scholarship Online, Tata McGraw-Hill’s Express library, Taylor & Francis Group, SAGE Publications, Pearson Education India, Springer e-Books and Wiley online Books.
News
The BOU library is a corporate member of the British Council library. The BOU library members are also entitled to use the British Council library. Day Card has been introduced in the Central Library. By using the Day Card, interested BOU students can use the Library from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm.
